What is Kratom?

Buying kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) refers to a tropical evergreen tree in the Rubiaceae family, native to Southeast Asia. The plant produces broad leaves with a diverse spectrum of naturally occurring indole alkaloids, including mitragynine, 7-hydroxymitragynine, speciogynine, and paynantheine. These compounds are of phytochemical interest due to their structural complexity and distribution across different strains and geographic regions.

The leaves are traditionally classified by the vein color — red, green, or white — reflecting differences in leaf maturity, post-harvest treatment, and regional variation.

Buying kratom in the EU

Legal status of kratom

The legal status of Mitragyna speciosa differs by EU Member State. It is the buyer’s responsibility to check the local legal framework before ordering.
